My name is Grace Teng. I quit my job recently-ish and right now, I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life.

Born and raised in Singapore, went to college in New York City. Alumna of New York University, Victoria Junior College, Dunman High School and Tao Nan School. At NYU, I double-majored in Film & Television and Spanish, and minored in Linguistics.

About this blog

"Películarities" is a portmanteau of the Spanish word "película", meaning "film", and "peculiarities". It just seemed like a word that should exist, and it describes this blog quite well - commentary on an eclectic range of topics, much of it motivated by my work as a filmmaker.

I maintain a more-than-passing interest in a wide variety of subjects - film of course, theatre, visual arts, photography, literature, music, foreign languages, translation, linguistics, technology, physics, philosophy, not necessarily in that order, and many other things besides. I write about things when they move me, when they make me wonder, when they make me think.

I tend to make connections between disparate fields and draw parallels between things that seem unrelated, so I hope you enjoy that kind of thing.

Fundamentally, what I care about are things that deepen the experience of being human.
